Born in Washington DC on August 15th 1983 and raised just outside DC in MD, Doug lived what seemed like a great childhood. Excelling in sports and even offered a scholarship to play football while in high school. At 17 years old, Doug’s parents separated. He found out through his mother that his father wasn’t his biological father. This news was a tough one to swallow. He bottled up his feelings and in doing so Doug turned to the bottle (alcohol) to numb the pain and feelings. After this, Doug quickly developed a dependency to alcohol, ended up in legal trouble, and lost his scholarship. He ended up playing semi pro football and was set to play overseas before violating the probation that was sentenced to because he did not stop drinking. With another opportunity lost because of alcohol, God got Doug’s attention when he was incarcerated and he turned his life over to Christ. Doug was sentenced to do a drug and alcohol rehab program that they offered in the jail.

Upon release Doug moved to West Virginia to start a new life following Jesus. He met his wife (Rachel King) while at church. They have been married since 2010. In 2016 Doug became an “ordained minister” and shortly after he became a “certified recovery coach”. Doug has served as an associate pastor, and also ran programs at the “Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission” such as an addictions program, taught discipleship classes, and preached for chapel on a regular basis. Doug created a Curriculum called “From Addiction to Purpose”, which he taught at several Recovery programs, and at the “Martinsburg Rescue Mission”.

Doug has preached/spoke at several recovery events, treatment centers, multiple rescue missions, and church’s. Most recently, Doug planted and pastors “Recovery Church Martinsburg” in Martinsburg WV. This church is part of the “Recovery Church Movement. Doug has been sober since August 2006.
