“HOW I MET THE MAN WHO SIGNED MY DEATH CERTIFICATE”

The night of February 17th, 2021, I had my near death experience whereby I died and was resurrected over 2 minutes later with no human intervention. I had been admitted to Lynchburg General Hospital, diagnosed with COVID on Christmas Eve, 2020. At the age of 70, I would ultimately spend 6 months in the hospital. To this day, I do not remember the first 2 months. Kevin, an ICU nurse would later tell me “trust me, you don’t want to remember”. I would also find out later that on January 6th that my vascular system had completely shut down twice. My blood pressure dropped to zero, and I was bleeding from everywhere conceivable. The staff was convinced I would not make it through the night. They had even signed my death certificate! An ICU nurse who cared for me would later tell me that of the 289 patients he cared for only 3 survived, of which I was one.

I “woke up” on February 24th. Luke, a nurse, came to see me and told what had happened the night Feb 17th. Luke told me that my heart had stopped for over 2 minutes. Everything had been tried to save me, but to no avail. Then, to the staff’s surprise, my heart started beating again! No human intervention had occurred. I had died and was resurrected. I remained convinced that God elected to save me. Sadly, I have no memory of the event!.

In 2021, Nick spent 6 months recovering from Covid. While in the hospital death overtook Nick. However, God brought Nick back. All in all, Nick dodged death 4 times and should have lost his voice – but God intervened at every turn. A mere 2 months after Nick returned home, he and Kathy would lose their oldest daughter to Covid.

While in the hospital in January 2021, I was put on dialysis due to potentially fatal potassium levels in my blood. I continued dialysis until December 2022 (Merry Christmas to me!!!). Only 2% of people who ever undergo dialysis come out of it. Subsequently, I informed my personal physician and my nephrologist that I would never again go into a dialysis chair. My personal physician said she had never had anyone who refused to go back into the chair. I told her that I would make her a believer in miracles. I told her that Jesus determines when I go home.

(about 10 miles north of Lynchburg, Va.) as well as the Vice Chancellor of Amherst Theological Seminary. He earned his D.Min in 2018 from Amherst Theological Seminary. He received his M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University in 2011 and works as a Pastoral Therapist. He is the author of “The Walk Applied: Living the New Creation Life as a Citizen of God’s Kingdom in a Secular World”. He recently published “The Walk Applied Fasting and Prayer Handbook”. He and Kathy have been married since 1985. They have 3 children.
