BIO:
Dr. Olen Brown, a
graduate of OU, is retired from the University of Missouri where
he held joint professorships including in the School of Medicine
and the Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center. He has authored
more than 100 scientific publications and is a life science
consultant and expert witness.
Baptized as a believer when he was a teenager, he has served as
a Sunday School teacher and deacon. As a scientist and a
Christian, Dr. Brown recognizes the magnificence of God’s
creation and seeks to mediate between science and religion. His
persuasive message uses truth from scripture and science to
affirm miracles and refute the idolatry of science-as-god. He
shows that scientific truth is not different from religious
truth and science alone is incapable of explaining either our
existence or ultimate meaning.
Olen and Polly Brown, married for nearly 50 years, live in
Columbia, Missouri. Polly is a Christian counselor. They have 3
married children and 6 grandchildren.
His presentation is based on his recent book: Miracles:
Everything That Is or was or Is to Come Is a Miracle, a
scientist looks at the evidence. ISBN 1419643576 Available at
Amazon.com, Target.com, Abebooks.com
Dr. Brown explains:
· My purpose in speaking is to inspire and equip the
faithful to better live for Christ and be effective teachers,
evangelizers, and mentors. I respond to the needs of my audience
and content will be appropriately adapted. Questions and
discussion are encouraged.
· Miracles are used as a magnet and lens to draw together
and focus on better understanding of faith, free will, good and
evil in the world, the purpose and existence of everything from
planets to people, fellowship with God, and salvation itself.
· Scripture and words distilled from the lives of
scientists, poets, pastors, philosophers, and other people of
faith are used to reinforce that universal truth can not be
different for religion and science.
· I have created the word synscicretism to call attention
to the fact that for today’s secular society, the media has
aided science in assuming ascendancy over religion, philosophy,
and science. I am a mediator who loves true science but demands
that science not be worshiped as an idol.
· Science and religion are compatible when science allows
God as Creator. Without God in creation, there is no purpose or
meaning for the universe or for the individual life; Father Time
and Blind Chance become the miracle workers. With God, life is
full of joy, purpose, and meaning. Salvation and eternal
fellowship with God are miracles, greater than the miracle of
creation itself.
· Experience miracles in a new light and be prepared for
great joy in your life.
